David Hamby is an Architect based on the island of Kauai. His practice centers on design innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and an ongoing discussion with the construction industry. Learning our client’s needs and desires, along with early thoughts from the builders, supports our goal of practical pleasing solutions.
Hamby worked in the building trades and later studied architecture and engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Working with design firms in New York and Aspen, he served as project manager on single-family resort homes and historic landmark renovation. Collaborations have contributed to numerous design awards, and global ranking in the AD100.
He has been an instructor at Sustainable South Bronx (SSBX) and founding member of MAKE Santa Fe quartered with Meow Wolf. Current R&D is bringing 3D concrete printing toward code compliance in Hawaii. Hamby’s research has been recognized with grants from Scenic Byways and Sandia National Laboratories. These technical elements add to the pallet of traditional materials and craft, for our client’s new spaces.
